It wasn't until I began playing with adding something in the sky I realised the buildings made me think of ancient Jerusalem, and that's why it was the choice image for my cards this year. The 'something' in the sky naturally became the Christmas star.
For reproduction purposes, the drawing needed to be tightened up and stylised, and the proportions to fit an A6 format; and because it's Christmas, it had free license to be decorative. I worked from prints of the original to get the angle of the leaning buildings right using a bolder, clearer line. Here's the result:
I want the image to be very small on an A6 card, so it will be reduced down considerably. Thanks to the clarity of the line the effect should be very detailed and delicate. I still love the softness and light, free touch of the dream original with its weird ink blots, but I am happy with this as a design for the cards.
