Is to keep just one tidy, whole notebook! I see photos of other peoples' beautifully kept Moleskines on Instagram etc all the time, which totally put mine to shame. So just one this year, with no rippedup/ripped out pages, which hasn't caught fire, and which still has all its pages and spine intact ...
Lately I have really been getting into traditional Staffordshire pottery. Some of it is so bizarre I find it delightful! I found this Victorian pair of greyhounds(?) decorated with black 'clouds' on Woolley and Wallis Salisbury Salerooms website.
Christmas is coming fast now. The guest house is fully booked (my day-job), family arriving in a few days, food delivery and preparation, gift wrapping and postage; it's busy. This is a photo of gifts I have been making today. I started at 6am with only a vague idea of what I was going to do, and from that tentative beginning, in the general way of creative flow, it expanded and developed as the day progressed. Ideas fed on ones that came before; I made over 40 of these, and by the end of the day I was producing large scale, double-sided, full-on BLING for Christmas trees for my friends in an efficient ergonomic river of creativity.
It's now getting on for midnight, boxes are packed and labelled for myHermes collection tomorrow, and I am tired but happy. It's extremely satisfying, and while the activity has been what might be termed as 'craft' the creative flow is immensely stimulating. I hate to make the distinction; I think it's all the same thing in the end; art, craft, drawing, development. It all comes from the same place, that deep well inside all of us. I don't know why it has to be classified. Blog posts may not be regular in the coming weeks - I may even take a blog holiday until January, but if anything interesting happens I will post my Drawing A Day when I get the chance, and if anything really interesting happens you will know it here! What was I supposed to be doing today? Mounting my Christmas cards. What did I end up doing? Spending an inordinate amount of time browsing Pinterest in a class A act of procrastination. It didn’t get light here properly all day, the weather continuing dismal and stormy in turns. It was just too dark to do anything constructive in the insufficient light of energy-saving lightbulbs. Then my cosily-lit iPad screen cut through the murk and came forth with these beautiful sculptures. Joy to the soul! They are by Haitian artist Georges Liautaud (1899-1991) ...
'heatherelizawalker Oops! My burning/singeing technique nearly got out of hand - using a different paper which goes up like a firework!'
If you have seen my Instagram today you will have seen this post about Drawing 67 from the Drawing A Day blog - it’s true, different papers do catch fire at different rates! Normally I would test a new paper ... An exciting couple of hours this afternoon at Wildgrass Studio printing and trimming the images for this year's Christmas cards. Dave and Gill offer professional fine art reproduction services and it is always fascinating to watch my artwork going through the processes. My images this year are tiny, to be mounted on white cards, and the quality of the printing is pristine and crisp (not that you can see that from my fuzzy photos!)
By the end of the day I had a nice little stack of lovely little card fronts - thank you, Wildgrass. |
Welcome to my work journal - a weekly update on drawings, work in progress, doodles and day-dreaming.
I changed the website address a few months ago, so some older links on previous posts are broken. If you click one of those and it takes you to a strange page, simply replace the .co.uk after the heatherelizawalker. with weebly.com and it will work again. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

As well as the work you see here, I illustrate under the name of Binky McKee (my mother's maiden name was McKee, Binky was every single one of my great grandmother's many cats!)
If you would like to visit my Binky website, please click the picture above. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Dissolving PeopleA symbol on the footpath outside a local primary school gradually disappearing as the image breaks up and wears away until eventually it is obliterated by leaves and barely discernible. Photographed at intervals of several months between February 2021 and November 2022, oldest at the top.
(My shoes look so new in the first pic, and note the transition to new phone in the last photo). <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
