Throughout the summer I began to add stitching to the drawings. This is a piece of thumb-knitted cotton taped in place onto a drawing of a wrinkly fruit. I am still playing about with how I am going to stitch the final position of the looped cotton onto the drawing, whilst also planning how I am going to deal with the shadowy cloud in the top right section (just a sketch on the underside of the tissue right now) ... NB I am rubbish at sewing, but this is exactly what I enjoy about this work. Slightly clumsy, always a surprise - there is always opposition to the supreme control I have over the drawing. It keeps me on my toes!

It keeps me on my toes! A birthday gift for a friend. I had a great day at Edinburgh College of Art recently doing tutorials with the students and giving a talk on my work, almost forty years to the day since I first walked through the hallowed portals of ECA as a student myself. The students I met a couple of weeks ago were a great bunch, they made me feel so welcome. The first tutorial group I took really wanted to know how I make the bug drawings - time was short so I could only give them a very short description, but I posted a full description on my Instagram @binky_mckee - the account I use for illustration and other life style type things. My other drawings can be seen at @heatherelizawalker.
I decided to bring my blog back after a long hiatus. This drawing I made back in January looks so innocent, but if one could ever reveal what was about to happen, this would be it. Rising and falling, sadness and joy: it has been one hell of a year, but it's not over yet and here I am again: Hello World! I'm back. See you again soon. PS I didn't manage to keep any of my New Years Resolutions. Never mind. there's always next year!! IF I'm still interested ... |
Welcome to my work journal - a weekly update on drawings, work in progress, doodles and day-dreaming.
I changed the website address a few months ago, so some older links on previous posts are broken. If you click one of those and it takes you to a strange page, simply replace the .co.uk after the heatherelizawalker. with weebly.com and it will work again. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

As well as the work you see here, I illustrate under the name of Binky McKee (my mother's maiden name was McKee, Binky was every single one of my great grandmother's many cats!)
If you would like to visit my Binky website, please click the picture above. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Dissolving PeopleA symbol on the footpath outside a local primary school gradually disappearing as the image breaks up and wears away until eventually it is obliterated by leaves and barely discernible. Photographed at intervals of several months between February 2021 and November 2022, oldest at the top.
(My shoes look so new in the first pic, and note the transition to new phone in the last photo). <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
