Heather Eliza Walker is an artist born in Dunfermline, Scotland, where she now lives and works after living in London for 23 years. After leaving school in 1976, her training in fine art began at Edinburgh College of Art and continued at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, after which she took her MA at Chelsea School of Art and Design in London. She was awarded the Stanley Picker Fellowship at Kingston University, Surrey, in 1985. She has worked as a hand colourist for the British Museum, graphic designer, calligrapher, and wrought iron furniture designer.
Exhibitions include the ICA London, Mall Galleries London, the Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh as well as a number of private galleries. Heather has work held in public and private collections in the UK and New York and is represented by the Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh.
Heather's work has been described as characterised by repeated lines and tiny marks which come together to form intricate images of her imaginary world of flora and fauna. She works with a variety of mark-making tools from Rotring and household pens to the more unusual soldering irons, naked flames and needle with thread. Texts often weave throughout her drawings, expanding the story. She works from her home in Fife which she shares with her partner Bernard, who is a painter and musician, and rescue Greyhound Dolly Meg.
